Genome Research and Genetic Diversity of Taro(Colocasia esculenta(L.)Schott)
Taro(Colocasia esculenta(L.)Schott),a vegetable and staple crop of the genus Colocasia in the Araceae Juss.family, has a long history of cultivation. This study reviews the latest progress in genome research and genetic di-versity of taro(Colocasia esculenta(L.)Schott).Taro is an important economic crop with a genome size of 2.1 Gb and approximately 24 000 genes. In recent years, with the development of high-throughput sequencing technology, sequencing and annotation of the taro genome have made significant progress. At the same time, research on the genetic diversity of taro has also received widespread attention, including genotype identification, population ge-netic structure, and genetic diversity conservation.Additionally, this study introduces the main strategies for taro variety improvement, including traditional breeding and modern gene editing and transgenic technology. In sum-mary,research on the genome and genetic diversity of taro is of great significance for promoting the development of the taro industry and achieving sustainable agricultural development.
