Area studies are a positive response to national development strategies and the needs ofthe times,and strengthening the construction of a dis-course system with Chinese characteristics is an important path to promoting area studies.In China's area studies,Latin America and the Caribbean have received attention,but there is still room for development.For more in-depth explora-tion,China's Latin American studies should focus on the indigenous theories,their colonial heritage,Latin American modernization,China-Latin America relations,and the China-Latin America community of destiny.The combination of Latin American studies with China's position and concerns will be conducive to constructing a discourse system of Latin American studies with Chinese charac-teristics,which is an important mission of promoting area studies.
