The Pacific island countries(PICs)are the countries hardest hit by climate change and are gradually entering a state of climate emergency.Research on cooperation between China and the PICs in coping with climate change is of great significance to South-South cooperation and the construction of a global climate governance system in the new era.Relevant research is found to have experienced a slow development stage(1992-2003),a steady growth stage(2004-2011)and a rapid rise stage(2012-2022).Vulnerability and re-silience assessment, climate change adaptation and governance, climate change narrative and discourse, community livelihoods and food security, climate mi-gration and community resettlement are the core themes of climate change re-search in the PICs.Chinese scholars should draw on international experience and methods to promote research on Sino-PICs cooperation in response to climate change. So far as basic research is concerned, research on climate change govern-ance should be based on vulnerability and resilience and oriented toward commu-nity adaptation, with focus on climate discourse and climate politics in the PICs.When it comes to empirical research, scholars can focus on the game of stakeholders in climate change decision-making,pay attention to the role of local knowledge in climate change adaptation, and explore community-based adapta-tion mechanisms. In the meantime,a climate change information and knowledge management framework should be established to promote China-PICs coopera-tion and targeted international assistance in addressing climate change.
