Experimental study on the effect of oil column diameter to transformer oil flammability and explosion characteristics
The transformer oil in pipe fittings of the ultra-high voltage converter transformer is easy to evaporate and form the flammable oil gas mixture.Nowadays, the experimental study on the dynamic evolution of transformer oil flammability and explosion was scarce. The pressure sensors are used to measure overpressure and high-speed cameras were used to record fireball evolutions. The effects of oil column diameter on the overpressure evolution and fireball behavior of transformer oil explosions were studied. The experimental results show that with the increase of oil column diameter from 93 mm to 350 mm,the maximum overpressure and the reflected overpressure both increase first and then decrease. With the increase of the distance between the pressure measuring point and the explosion center, the maximum overpressure presents a gradual downward trend. When the diameter of oil column changes from 153 mm to 350 mm,the fireball behavior for the transformer oil induced by explosive explosion is similar, and the explosion fireball mainly propagates in the vertical direction. The maximum height and the maximum area of fireball induced by oil column explosion first increase and then decrease with the increase of oil column diameter.
