Numerical Simulation of Coupled Water Transport and Shrinkage Deformation of Cellular Tissues During Hot-Air Drying
Insufficient knowledge of water transport from cellular tissues has been one of the rea-sons for the lack of full investigation on the plant material property variation mechanism during the drying process.Based on model cells,a water transport model was established for different struc-tures in the cells, and a mechanical model was built to simulate the shrinkage in the dehydration process. The proposed models were validated by comparing the results with those in literature. The isothermal drying process of cellular tissues was numerically simulated.Water transport and shrink-age due to dehydration were investigated for different structures in the cells.Besides, the influence of shrinkage deformation on water transport in the drying process was analyzed, which provided significant foundation for investigating drying characteristics of materials from the cellular tissues.
