Experimental Study on the Dechlorination and Upgrading of Medical Waste Catalyzed by Steel-converter Ash
In order to avoid the potential hazards such as corrosion of equipment and formation of dioxins due to the presence of chlorine during high temperature gasification of medical waste, polyvinyl chloride(PVC)was used as a model compounds in medical waste, the dechlorination and upgrading of medical waste by low temperature pyrolysis catalyzed by steel-converter ash was experimentally carried out in a fixed bed reactor, and the effects of reaction temperature, catalyst type and addition amount on the release characteristics of pyrolysis products were investigated. The results showed that the dechlorination rate of medical waste was increased from 57.94%at 270℃ without adding steel-converter ash to 72.57%with adding steel-converter ash of 0.2 g·g-1 PVC,indicating that the dechlorination process was significantly promoted by the steel-converter ash.The PVC with 72.57%dechlorination rate and 42.47 MJ·kg-1 calorific value of semicoke was occurred at 270℃ with adding steel-converter ash of 0.2 g·g-1 PVC.
