Assessment of Axial Flow Jet Propulsion Pump's Design
In this paper, numerical simulation is carried out to study the internal flow field of an axial-flow water jet propulsion pump, with attentions are paid to the cavitation flow characteristics to assess the design of an axial flow jet propulsion pump. The cavitation location, disturbance velocity field, pressure coefficient, blade load, angle of attack, and their variations with cavitation number are analyzed. The results show that the cavitation firstly appears near the blade tip of the leading edge, and on the suction side. With the decrease of the cavitation number, the cavitation extends from the leading edge of the suction side to the trailing edge. The bubble thickness and the area of the low pressure zone on the suction surface also increase.Furthermore, the deterioration of the water jet propulsion pump's performance is related to the decrease of blade load.Meanwhile, the influence of blade number on cavitation characteristics is further studied. The head curves with cavitation numbers show that increasing the number of impellers properly can improve the anti-cavitation performance of the axial-flow water jet propulsion pump.
