Antibacterial properties of PC/copper-loaded graphene oxide composites
Polycarbonate(PC)is an engineering plastic with excellent combination properties. In the application of antibacteri-al products, the antibacterial efficiency and service life of PC could be improved by improving its short-trem antibacterial property and scrub resistance. The Cu@graphene oxide(GO)antibacterial agents were synthesized through liquid phase mixing and spray drying under varying ratios of GO and copper sulfate, resulting in three distinct types.Subsequently,a series of PC/Cu@GO composites were prepared by blending and injection molding the antibacterial agents with PC.The conventional antibacterial perfor-mance,the short-term antibacterial property, and the scrub resistance of three PC/Cu@GO materials were evaluated. The results demonstrate that the Cu@GO antibacterial agent significantly enhances the antibacterial performance of PC.Specifically, when the addition ratio of GO to copper sulfate is 1∶9,the corresponding PC exhibites favorable short-trem antibacterial property with the antimicrobial rates of 96.8%and 70.0%,after 6 hours of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus inoculation. When the addition ratio of GO to copper sulfate is 1∶3,the corresponding PC displayed excellent long-lasting bactericidal efficacy as evidenced by sustained antimicrobial rates of 68.2%for Escherichia coli and 61.7%for Staphylococcus aureus after four cycles of washing and soaking treatment.
