Storage performance of domestic T800 carbon fiber epoxy prepreg at room temperature
The aging of prepreg at room temperature caused changes of the physicochemical and processing properties of prepreg, and even affected the quality of composite components. To investigate the storage performance at room temperature of new generation domestic T800 grade toughened AC531 epoxy prepreg, the effect of storage time at room temperature on the resin flow, volatile content, cure degree, and tack of unidirectional tape and fabric prepreg were examined. In addition,large-thickness and high-curvature L-shaped composite components were prepared using the prepreg with different storage times, and the internal quality, monolayer curing thickness and mechanical properties of the composite components were tested. The results show that after 30 d of storage at room temperature, the resin flow of the prepreg slightly decreases, and the volatile content slightly increases, the tack level of the unidirectional tape prepreg changes to level 4,while the tack level of the fabric prepreg changes to level 3,the processability of the prepreg decreases, and the tack retention time of the fabric prepreg is better than that of the unidirectional tape prepreg. The large-thickness and high-curvature L-shaped composite components prepared from the prepreg after 30 d of storage still exhibit high internal quality, and the cured ply thickness meets the requirements, the flexural strength and interlaminar shear strength remain almost unchanged.
