Foaming behavior of PET/nano SiO2 composites and its optical property
To study the effect of nano silica(SiO2)and matrix viscosity on the foaming behavior and optical property of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET)composites, two kinds of PET of different viscosity(PET2 with higher viscosity than PET1)were chosen to mix with SiO2 of various loading contents to prepare PET/SiO2 composites, and then PET/SiO2 composite foams were prepared via batch foaming process with CO2 as foaming agent.First, the effect of SiO2 and matrix viscosity on cell structure of PET/SiO2 composite foams was studied using scanning electron microscope. Then, the effect of SiO2 and matrix viscosity on foaming temperature window of PET/SiO2 composites was studied.Last, the effect of SiO2 and matrix viscosity on light reflectivity of PET/SiO2 composite foams was studied. The results show that with increase in SiO2 content, the cell size of PET/SiO2 foams decreases, the cell density increases.Compared to PET1/SiO2 systems,PET2/SiO2 foams show smaller cell size and larger cell density. With increase in SiO2 content, the upper limit of foaming temperature of PET/SiO2 composites first increases and then decreases, and the foaming temperature window shows the changing trend of a first widening and then a narrowing.PET2/SiO2 composites show both higher upper limit and lower limit of foaming temperature. With increase in SiO2 content,PET/SiO2 foams display a gradual increase in light reflectivity. The PET2/SiO2 foams show higher light reflectivity.
