Preparation and properties of lysine modified antibacterial waterborne polyurethane
Cationic and non-ionic waterborne polyurethane with antibacterial properties was prepared by prepolymer method, using polyether diol and isoflurone diisocyanate(IPDI)as prepolymer raw materials, introducing cross-linking agent trimethylolpro-pane(TMP),hydrophilic chain extender N-methyldiethanolamine(MDEA),polyethylene glycol, and neutralizer 3,4-dihydroxyben-zoic acid(PCA).On this basis, lysine(Lys)was introduced to improve antibacterial properties. The effects of Lys content on the properties of polyurethane emulsion,as well as the molecular structure, mechanical properties and antibacterial properties of the polyurethane film were studied. The results show that the antibacterial waterborne polyurethane can be synthesized by simultaneous-ly using four components with antibacterial effects including MDEA cation, polyethylene glycol polymerization unit,Lys,and PCA.Cationic and non-ionic waterborne polyurethane with MDEA and polyethylene glycol as the hydrophilic components has antibacteri-al properties. The introduction of Lys can effectively improve the antibacterial properties of waterborne polyurethane. When Lys content accounts for 3%of the solid mass of polyurethane emulsion, the waterborne polyurethane film has better mechanical proper-ties and antibacterial properties. Both non Lys modified and Lys modified cationic and non-ionic waterborne polyurethanes exhibit contact type antibacterial mechanisms.
