Preparation and properties of UV-shielding PDA/BC/PVB composite transparent films
Polyvinyl butyral(PVB)film products are widely used in the field of packaging materials, however, the photodegra-dation of polymeric materials leads to the reduction of the application value of the materials, therefore, the design of UV-protected PVB composites chanting is considered as a necessity to realise the value of their applications.Taking dopamine hydrochloride(DA),bacterial cellulose(BC)and PVB as raw materials, firstly, based on the self-oxidative polymerization of DA,poly(dopamine)(PDA)/BC nanocomposites were obtained by in-situ deposition of PDA on the surface of BC after the modification of BC,and then PDA/BC/PVB composite nano-films were prepared by co-mixing PDA/BC with PVB through solution blending and film-coating processes, and the effects of the addition of PDA/BC on the structure and properties of PDA/BC/PVB composite films were investi-gated by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),ultraviolet-visible infrared(UV)spectrophotometer, universal materials testing machine,Fourier infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and X-ray diffractometer(XRD).The SEM analysis demonstrated that when the mass fraction of DA is 0.1%,the generated PDA could uniformly cover the surface of BC.Furthermore, the cross-section of the prepared PDA/BC/PVB composite film exhibite a dense structure, and PDA/BC is uniformly dispersed in PVB when the addition of PDA/BC is less than 1%.The UV transmittance results show that the UV shielding efficiency of PDA/BC/PVB composites at 370 nm is more than 98%after the addition of PDA/BC in the amount of 1%,and the composite transparent films show excellent UV-blocking performance. The tensile strength of the material at this time is as high as 61.2 MPa,much higher than that of the origi-nal PVB(39.7 MPa).Optical photographs showed that the addition of PDA/BC does not change the transparency of the material.
