Comparative performance of cyclo olefin copolymer and cyclo olefin polymer
Cycloolefin polymers have high heat resistance, high toughness, high transparency and high dimensional stability, making them an ideal substitute for glass materials, and show a wide range of applications in the optical and medical fields. In order to reveal the intrinsic connection between the chemical structure and properties of cyclic olefin polymers, and to lay the foundation for the development and customization of new materials, the properties of two typical cyclic olefin polymer materials, cyclic olefin copolymer(COC)and cyclic olefin polymer(COP)were compared in detail by means of stereo microscope, contact angle tester,UV-visible spectrophotometer, gel permeation chromatography, fourier transform infrared spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. The results show that the transmittance of COP is slightly better than that of COC.The hydrophobicity of COP is stronger than that of COC.The weight-average molecular weight and number-average molecular weight of COC are larger than that of COP,and the molecular weight distributions of COC are slightly broader than that of COP.The fourier transform infrared spectra show that the fingerprint characteristic peaks of COP are 920 cm-1 and 815 cm-1,and the fingerprint characteristic peaks of COC are 1 141,773,715 cm-1.The initial decomposition temperature and the maximum decomposition temperature of COC and COP are similar.A glass transition temperature without melting peak are showed, which indicates that COC and COP are amorphous. The 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectra show the characteristic peak of COC are 32-36 and 46.5-50,while the characteristic peak of COP are 51-52 and 46.
