Opportunities and Challenges： China＇s Peaceful Development in the International Environment
There are six key issues for close observation of China＇s intemational environment, status and opportunity： first, the great success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games marked China＇s rise as a big country in the international community; second, the financial crisis was successful addressed, showing China＇s potential to become a powerful economy; third, the two events - Chinese naval escort duties in Gulf of Aden and the withdrawal of Chinese nationals from Libya - highlight China＇s global benefits that require protection; fourth, the replacement of G20 economy groups by G8 symbolizes the inevitable move of rising economies toward the global center; fifth, the conflicts over Diaoyu Island together with a US aircraft carrier entering the South China Sea and Yellow Sea triggered vehement responses from China. The above issues depict a complicated outlook of China＇s international environment, in which opportunities and challenges coexist. It proposes the long-rnn policy of growth in retirement to realize her strategic goal of China＇s peaceful development.
