A Rational Analysis of the Chinese Self-concept --from the Perspective of Confucian Ethics Culture
Self is the core of personality structure, and humans are always placed in a certain cultural background. The study of cultural factors for the self has now become a new trend. Previous studies of the self are mostly from the perspective of individualism and collectivism, concluding that the Westerners tend to possess independent self, and the Chinese dependent self. Since collectivism cannot explain the integrated cultural features of the Chinese people, collectivist approach is often biased and inaccurate. The essay explores the Chinese self from the perspective of Confucian ethics culture.
