Economic Benefit Analysis of Hydrogen Production from Electrolysis Participating in Regulation Service
As an important link among hydrogen energy, electricity, and renewable energy, hydrogen production from electrolysis has strong flexibility. The electrolyzers can provide frequency regulation ancillary service for the power systems while producing hydrogen. To analyze the impact of providing frequency regulation ancillary service on the cost of hydrogen production from electrolysis, this study builds an operation strategy model for hydrogen production to participate in the electricity market and frequency regulation ancillary service market.Combined with the life cycle perspective, the economic benefits of hydrogen production from electrolysis participating in frequency regulation ancillary service are analyzed. The study carries out simulations using the historical data of the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland electricity power market as an example. The results show that the participation in the frequency regulation ancillary service market can reduce the levelized cost of hydrogen production from electrolysis by 27%.
