Research on Visible Light Criterion for AC Salt Fog Flashover of Composite Insulators
Once an insulator flashover accident occurs,it seriously endangers the safe operation of the power grid.In order to explore new methods for discharge detection and flashover warning, the arc evolution characteristics at different stages of AC salt fog flashover of composite insulators were studied using image processing technology, and an attempt was made to propose visible light criteria for surface discharge and salt fog flashover of composite insulators.Firstly,AC salt fog flashover experiments were carried out on 10 kV composite insulators, and the arc evolution videos under dark and bright backgrounds were recorded. Then, the differences in arc extinction and reignition characteristics between the arc development stage and flashover stage were analyzed, and the discharge pixel number was proposed as a visible light image discharge evaluation parameter. Finally, the discharge pixel number time series of the arc evolution process at different stages were extracted through image processing technology. The results show that the discharge pixel number can accurately reflect the surface discharge status of the insulator, and the discharge pixel number time series matches the arc extinction and reignition regularity at various stages. Therefore, the non-zero discharge pixel number and non-zero valley value of the discharge pixel number time series can be used as visible light criteria for surface discharge and salt fog flashover of composite insulators respectively.
