Review of Flow Field Characteristics and Classification/Separation Performance of Hydrocyclones
The primary separation principle of hydrocyclones is the dynamic behavior difference between particle-particle or particle-fluid.Hydrocyclones are widely applied in the fields of chemical engineering, metallurgy, mineral engineering, and environmental protection. In industrial runs, the unreasonable operating conditions or the limit of the geometric structure prevent the devices from achieving a satisfying classification or separation performance. This review summarizes the flow field characteristics and the key factors affecting the separation performance of the hydrocyclone. The complex multiphase flow field is presented inside the hydrocyclone, and the operating parameters such as particle properties, feed liquid properties, feed conditions, and geometric structures will affect the separation performance of the hydrocyclone. In practical applications, the classification and separation performance can be enhanced through the optimization of the operating conditions and geometric structures.
