Evaluation Research of the Efficacy of Ruicao Oil against Mosquito Bites and Itching
Objective:To study the indoor and outdoor repellent and antipruritic effects of Ruicao oil on mosquitoes through an objective and quantitative evaluation method. Methods:The effective protection time, the half-knockdown time(KT50)and survival rate were calculated to verify the indoor and outdoor repellent effects of Ruicao oil on Aedes albopictus adults,as well as the indoor killing effect of adults and larvae.Guinea pigs with histamine phosphate-induced itching were used as an animal model to evaluate the antipruritic efficacy of Ruicao oil. Results:By applying 1.5 μL/cm2 of the oil to the skin of the back of the hand,The effective protection time against Aedes albopictus indoors was 6 h,which was rated as A grade according to relevant standards. The effective protection time against Aedes albopictus outdoors was 4 h,which efficacy was qualified. The KT50 of Aedes albopictus indoors was 1.65 min,and the mortality rate reached 100%in 2.87 min, which effect was rated as A grade. In the indoor mosquito larvae killing test, the effective concentration of 48 h was≥0.005%,and the killing rate was 93.33%,which result was effective.Ruicao oil effectively reduced histamine concentration in skin tissues with an itch time inhibition rate of 53.76%,which was superior to compounded dexamethasone acetate cream(38.35%).Conclusion:Ruicao oil has shown significant efficacy against mosquito bites and itching, which can enrich the means of preventing mosquito-borne diseases, such as dengue fever,as well as provide a reference for the evaluation of the efficacy of other medicinal oil products against mosquito bites and itching.
