Application of Acid Sphingomyelin Enzyme in the Regulation of Leptin Resistance
Leptin,a hormone secreted by fat cells, plays an important role in food intake and body weight homeostasis and exerts negative feedback effects on energy intake.Currently,we know that most diet-induced-obesity(DIO)individuals are associated with leptin resistance, which is characterized by decreased leptin sensitivity and hyperleptinemia. The acid sphingomyelinase(ASM),a key enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin to ceramide, plays a key role in the development of multiple diseases. To date, though a variety of researches have been published to explain the pathogenic mechanism of ASM for various diseases, the relationship between ASM and leptin resistance is poorly understood.Consequently, exploring the relationship between ASM and leptin resistance may supply new strategies for the treatment of leptin resistance and leptin resistance-related diseases.
