Application of Cinnamon in Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus
Cinnamon,the dry bark of Cinnamomum cassia(Cinnamomum camphoraceae),is a common traditional Chinese medicinal herb with various pharmacological effects such as lowering blood sugar,antibacterial,and antioxidant properties.Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia.The clinical applications of cinnamon single and compound preparations,and hypoglycemic effect of cinnamon extracts such as cinnamon volatile oil,cinnamon polyphenols,cinnamon flavonoids,cinnamon polysaccharide were reviewed in order to providing reference for the clinical application of cinnamon in the treatment of diabetes.
