Effect of Temperature on MBR Membrane Off-line Cleaning with Sodium Hypochlorite
This paper focuses on the issue of incomplete cleaning of membrane modules during offline cleaning in winter, leading to difficulties in maintaining water production at a wastewater treatment plant in Shanghai,China. The impact of temperature on the offline cleaning efficiency of MBR membranes using sodium hypochlorite was investigated through an orthogonal experiment to optimize the current cleaning process. Results revealed that the efficiency of offline cleaning of MBR membranes is significantly influenced by the dosage-to-membrane area ratio, cleaning duration, and temperature, with the order of impact being dosage-to-membrane area ratio>temperature>cleaning duration. It is crucial to consider temperature when performing offline cleaning of MBR membranes in winter,as membranes are challenging to restore when the temperature is below 10℃.Enhancing membrane cleaning effectiveness requires an increase in the ratio of sodium hypochlorite dosage to the contaminated membrane area. When the cleaning temperature surpasses 15℃,the membrane can be restored to a pristine state even with a sodium hypochlorite dosage to membrane area ratio of only 50∶1.
