Research Progress on Quercetin Treatment for Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy
Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy(HIE)is a severe perinatal brain injury that can lead to long-term neurodevelopmental disorders.Currently, there are no effective specific treatment methods, and although cooling therapy has been somewhat helpful, its effectiveness is limited. Therefore, there is an urgent need for new treatment strategies.Quercetin,a flavonoid compound widely found in nature, has become a focus of research due to its excellent antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and neuroprotective properties. This article briefly discusses the brain damage caused by HIE and how quercetin combats this through its antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and neuroprotective mechanisms, highlighting its potential and significance in the treatment of HIE.This review aims to provide new perspectives and directions for the treatment of HIE,explore the potential of quercetin as a treatment strategy for neonatal HIE,and emphasize the necessity for future research on the safety and effectiveness of quercetin.
