Determination of Heavy Elements in Cosmetics by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry
To establish a method for the detection of heavy elements such as lead, arsenic, and gallium etc.in cosmetics, and to provide a method reference for judging whether some skin diseases are caused by improper selection of skin care products.A series of standard samples containing heavy elements of different concentrations was measured by X-ray fluorescence spectrum(XRF),the standard curves for calculating the content of heavy elements were established through the analysis of the X-ray fluorescence Vs heavy elements of different types and concentrations, and concentration of heavy elements in cosmetics can be determined according to the XRF of the sample to be tested and standard curves.Compared with other methods, such as atomic absorption spectrometry(AAS),X-ray fluorescence spectrometry has some outstanding advantages:the sample to be tested does not need pretreatment, and the test results can be obtained quickly in a few minutes, and with high sensitivity. The detection limit and detection error of various heavy metals are about 1 mg/kg,which is one order of magnitude lower than the heavy element content allowed by the national standard. The method(XRF method)is easy to operate and has low detection limits and high sensitivity, and can be used to screen the content of heavy elements in cosmetics.
