Teaching Reform of Bioreaction Engineering Course Guided by the Cultivation of Students'Engineering Thinking and Ability
Bioreaction engineering is the core course of the major of bioengineering, which mainly includes the biological reaction laws at the biological level, together with the operation, design, and amplification of bioreactors at the equipment engineering level. The course of bioreaction engineering has distinct characteristics including theoretical, engineering, practical application, and interdisciplinary nature. This course involves numerous dynamic simulations, equipment calculation formulas, which are relatively obscure and difficult to understand. As a consequence, the teaching process is generally characterized by teachers'inability to explain and students'inability to keep up.In response to this phenomenon, this study,on the basis of sorting out the characteristics of the bioreaction engineering course, carries out the teaching reforms from the following three aspects:clarifying the hierarchical and progressive teaching objectives, strengthening the engineering oriented teaching content, and highlighting the guiding role of engineering cases. It has effectively achieved the course teaching objectives of students'knowledge, ability, and quality in three aspects.Through these teaching reforms, the course has played a supportive role in guiding and cultivating students'engineering thinking and engineering abilities. In conclusion, this study can provide some inspiration and reference for the teaching reform of core courses in bioengineering and other engineering majors.
