Study on the Properties and Crystallization Behavior of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polyester Alloys
Glass fiber reinforced PET/PBT alloy materials were prepared by melt blending using a twin-screw extruder. The effect of PET/PBT ratio on the infrared spectra, mechanical properties, and melt crystallization behavior of the alloy materials was carefully studied. With respect to the PET/PBT alloy system, the rigidity of the system remains unchanged, but the deflection and izod notched impact strength decrease with the increase of PBT content.Meanwhile, with the increase of PBT content, the peak intensity at peak positions 1319 cm-1 and 810 cm-1 which are attributed to PBT gradually increases, while the peak intensity of PET peak positions(1343 cm-1 and 792 cm-1)gradually weakens. When the PET/PBT ratio ranges from 4∶1 to 1∶4,the crystallization temperature firstly decreases and then increases. Moreover, the crystallization peak area firstly decreases and then increases.Furthermore, when PET/PBT ratio is 1∶1,the crystallization is the slowest, and the degree of ester exchange reaction is also greater, making it more difficult to control. When PET/PBT ratio is 1∶2,the crystallization temperature is the lowest, and products with excellent appearance can be formed at low mold temperatures.
