Recent Advances in the Synthesis and Bioapplications of Bio-based Waterborne Polyurethane(BWPU)
With the increasing concern of fossil fuel dependence and environmental pollution,bio-based materials have emerged as a focal point of research.Traditional petroleum-based polyurethanes, which are difficult to degrade and metabolize biologically, have limited their application in biomedicine and tissue engineering.Bio-based waterborne polyurethane(BWPU),characterized by its biodegradability, excellent biocompatibility, and the utilization of sustainable resources,is considered a preferred alternative to petroleum-based polyurethane.BWPU is primarily synthesized by converting biomass resources into polyols or isocyanates, which are then polymerized into waterborne polyurethane. This review summarizes the synthesis progress of BWPU and its applications in biomedical fields, aiming to provide a reference for related research and discuss the key points and challenges of current research.
