Abstract
The custom of erecting tombstones for the alive of the Shui people is extremely unique, with broad significance and multifaceted impacts within the Shui society. The main reason for erecting a tombstone for the person who is alive is for the longevity of the tomb owner or their children. The differences in the person erecting the tombstone and the specific reasons for its erection have influenced the type and specific content of the tombstone.Since the tomb owner is still alive at the time of the tombstone's creation, there are several taboos regarding the storage and eventual use of the tombstone.
