Analysis of the Residual Life of Retired Engine Camshafts with Micro-cracks
Various forms of fatigue damage often occur in retired engine camshafts during their service life, among which micro-cracks are common. These micro-cracks are difficult to repair and remove in subsequent remanufacturing processes.Based on ANSYS software, this paper predefines circumferential and axial semi-elliptical micro-cracks at different positions on the camshaft according to the possible occurrence of cracks.Stress analysis is performed on the camshaft containing micro-cracks to obtain stress data. The stress data is then imported into the fatigue analysis software nCode Designlife to conduct a fatigue life analysis of the camshaft. This study investigates the impact of cracks at different positions and directions on the residual life of the camshaft. The analysis results can serve as a theoretical criterion for the remanufacturing of retired engine camshafts.
