The Influence and Mechanism of Paternal Phubbing on Preschool Children's Problem Behaviors:A Moderated Mediation Model
Paternal parenting is an important component of high-quality family education,and the age of digital intelligence has brought new challenges to paternal parenting.Whether and how paternal phubbing behavior affects preschool children's development has begun to attract academic attention.A questionnaire survey was conducted among 817 fathers of preschool children in Guangdong,aiming to explore the impact of paternal phubbing on preschool children's problem behavior and its mechanism.Results showed that paternal phubbing has a significant positive predictive effect on preschool children's problem behaviors.Screen-based media use of preschool children mediates the relationship between paternal phubbing and preschool children's problem behavior.Preschool children's gender moderates the relationship between paternal phubbing and screen-based media use of preschool children.Findings:Paternal phubbing can increase the risk of problem behavior by enhancing screen-based media use of preschool children.Girls play a more significantly moderating role in the relationship between paternal phubbing and screen-based media use of preschool children than boys.The study suggests that fathers and other caregivers should actively reflect on their own media parenting behaviors,guide their children to use electronic devices reasonably,and raise the awareness of gender differences in education.
