The Effect of Mothers'Media Attitudes on Young Children's Problematic Media Use:A Multiple Mediation Model
A questionnaire was conducted among 950 mothers of young children in Guangdong Province to examine the influence of mothers'media attitudes on young children's problematic media use and to test the mediating roles of mothers'media parenting behaviors and phubbing in this relationship. The results showed that mothers'media attitudes significantly predicted young children's problematic media use;mothers'media parenting behaviors and phubbing played parallel mediating roles in the relationship between mothers'media attitudes and young children's problematic media use. While mothers'media attitudes may reduce the risk of problematic media use in young children through media parenting behaviors, they may also increase it by influencing phubbing. This study suggests that parents should positively adjust their attitudes towards media, identify potential risks of media use among young children, combine various media parenting styles to guide young children to positive and healthy media use,and create a positive family media environment to reduce problematic media use.
