The Influence of Positive Parenting on Junior High School Students'Externalizing Problem Behaviors:The Chain Mediation Role of Self-Esteem and Self-Control
This study explores the relationship between parental positive discipline and externalizing behaviors in junior high school students,as well as the mechanisms involved.A survey of 410 students from four junior high schools was conducted using the Parental Positive Discipline Scale,Problem Behavior Scale,Self-Esteem Scale, and Self-Control Scale. The results showed no significant differences in parental positive discipline based on gender, grade, and mothers'education level, but a significant difference was found concerning fathers'education level.Parental positive discipline was significantly positively correlated with self-esteem and self-control,and significantly negatively correlated with externalizing problem behaviors.Parental positive discipline can directly influence externalizing problem behaviors in junior high school students and can also indirectly influence them through the chain mediation of self-esteem and self-control.Self-esteem and self-control play a chain mediation role between parental positive discipline and externalizing problem behaviors in junior high school students. These findings enrich the theoretical framework of positive discipline and offer valuable insights for family and school educational practices.
