Analysis of a Downburst Process Triggered by a Sea Breeze Front
Using the data of surface automatic weather stations in Zhuhai,MICAPS and an X-band du-al-polarization phased-array radar at Hengqin,Zhuhai, this paper analyzed a weather process of downburst triggered by a sea breeze front. The results are shown as follows.1)Prior to the downburst, the atmosphere was structured such that it was dry in the upper level but moist in the low level, with large vertical gradients of temperature and CAPE and favorable environmental conditions for thunderstorms to take place.2)A se-vere convective system accompanying this downburst was mainly triggered by a sea breeze front formed over the eastern coast of Zhuhai and a mesocyclone was also present.3)Before the onset of the downburst, the lower level of the atmosphere was in the period of large reflectivity such that the X-band dual-polarization phased-array radar clearly captured the falling of strong reflectivity factor, the convergence of mid-level ra-dial velocity and the divergence of near-surface airflows.
