Numerical Simulations of Typhoon Vamco and Analyses of its Microphysical Structure
Using the GFS analysis data as the initial and boundary fields, this paper numerically simu-lated Typhoon Vamco(coded 2022)with WRF4.0.With the best track dataset from China Meteorological Administration(CMA)Tropical Cyclone Data Center, the GPM satellite data and conventional surface ob-servations,this work compared the differences between NSSL and WDM6,two microphysical schemes,in the track, intensity and precipitation of the typhoon and the content of hydrometeors. The results are shown as follows.(1)The typhoon track and intensity of the NSSL scheme were relatively close to the real ty-phoon.(2)The distribution of precipitation with the NSSL scheme was relatively close to the retrieved result of satellites.(3)The vertical distribution of hydrometeors between the two microphysical schemes differed much, with the NSSL having larger content of ice-phase particles and smaller content of cloud water and rain water. It is known from the simulation that the two schemes differed in the processing of the ice phase to re-sult in different evolution of Vamco, suggesting the sensitivity of typhoon intensity and precipitation to the ice-phase process.
