Jon Fosse's plays are characterized by a simple style,conveying a very subtle and limited message,since his plays are only"emotional frames".By simplifying the language and settings,Fosse creates a free space for both the audience and the actors in terms of character,language and emotional experience,allowing them to actively and fully participate in the play and reveal themselves.Yet,being restricted by limited language and movement,both of the audience and the actors can only"confront each other"in silence,thus fulfilling the aim of his play as to keep the truth from being declared by spoken word.By his unique techniques,Fosse evokes the inner experience of the audience and the actors,as well as the inner-communication embodied through his plays.
