Herder and His Contemporaries:Classicism,Romanticism,Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment——An Interview with Professor Ulrich Gaier
As an important German thinker in the 18th century,Johann Gottfried Herder played an important role in German and western literature,philosophy and other related fields.Professor Gaier of Konstanz University in Germany is a famous widely-published German scholar.He has been engaged in the research of German modern literature for a long time,especially in the field of Herder research.Based on the concept of several schools and ages,this paper makes an interview with Professor Gaier around Herder and his contemporaries.Because of the unique characteristics of modern German literature,Professor Gaier opposed the simple division of these writers by the concept of schools and ages.Herder played an important role in this unique modem German literature,which had a profound influence on later German literature and the development of literature,history and philosophy.
