The three Chinese popular novels translated by the Sinologist Peter Perring Thoms from 1818 to 1824 were influenced by the British romantic literature and Sinology in the early 19th century.The translation method of"text & annotation"was adopted to convey the charm of Chinese literature,introduced a lot of Chinese cultural knowledge,and at the same time,learned from the English love Romances,historical Romances and poetic novels in the English romantic literature,rewritten and reconstructed part of the source text,which is easy to be accepted by Western readers.Thomas's translation of Chinese novels has certain methodological significance,and can provide a reference for the exchange and mutual learning of Chinese and foreign literature.
