A Case Report on Mixed Infection of Duck Tembusu Virus and Duck Circovirus in Cherry Valley Ducks
In August 2023,ducks in a duck farm in Guangxi Province suddenly suffered from neurological symptoms such as limp feet and leg muscle trembling. In order to explore the pathogen of this disease, the ducks were investigated. The anatomy results showed that the liver was slightly enlarged, brittle, yellowish brown, and the spleen was enlarged.Pathological sections showed that there were small round vacuoles in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes and a small amount of congestion.Necrocytosis and karyopyknosis were seen in the spleen tissue. The pathogen detection results showed that duck Tembusu virus(DTMUV)and duck circovirus(DuCV)were positive, while bacteria and other pathogens were negative. The results of sequence analysis showed that the detected duck Tembusu virus was genetically closely related to the SCS01 strain, belonging to Cluster 2.1.The detected duck circovirus was genetically closely related to the Shandong YF180401 strain, belonging to DuCV-1.It was determined that the sudden onset of duck flocks in this farm was caused by duck Tembusu virus and duck circovirus. These two viruses are common infectious pathogens that harm ducks in clinical practice, but mixed infection has rarely been reported. This study provides references for the detection and comprehensive prevention and control of DTMUV and DuCV in China.
