A Case Report on Gastric Pythiosis Confirmed by GMS Staining in dog
Pythiosis is an infection caused by Pythium, which can lead to invasive, granulomatous inflammation and mass-like lesions in the gastrointestinal tract of diseased animals. It is difficult to diagnose the disease only by clinical examination,so it is necessary to submit tissue samples.Pythium belongs to Oomycetes. The mycelial morphology, sporulation and nutrient absorption of oomycetes are similar to those of fungi.Gomori's methenamine silver nitrate stain(GMS)is often used to identify fungi, and it also has a good effect on the staining of Pythium. The author will now report a case of canine gastric rot diagnosed by GMS staining as follows for clinicians'reference.
