Climate risk mitigation investments in the U.S.FY 2024 defense budget request
The investments to mitigate climate risk in the United States'(U.S.)defense budget request for fiscal year(FY)2024 are examined,including those in installation resilience and adaptation,research,development,testing and evaluation,operational energy,and contingency preparedness.Since incorporating investments to mitigate climate risk in the U.S.defense budget request for FY 2022,the volume of such investments has steadily increased.In the FY 2024 budget request,these investments reached US$5.132 billion.This increase aimed to align with the claims of the National Security Strategy(NSS)and the National Defense Strategy issued in 2022 to develop a more resilient joint force and defense ecosystem.The scale and structure of the budget reflect the focuses and priorities of the U.S.Department of Defense in addressing the impact of climate change.
