Comparison of government-backed AI security institutions in the UK and the U.S.
The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence and large language models has brought significant social and economic benefits,as well as a series of security challenges. To effectively address these challenges, the United Kingdom and the United States have taken the lead in establishing specialized AI security research institutions. In this paper,a comparative analysis is conducted on the two countries'AI security strategies, policies, and practices to find out their similarities and differences. The two governments'strategy formulation, integration of scientific research with practical applications, and their broad alliances and collaborations are particularly studied.Despite differences in the nature of AI security institutions and specific strategies, both countries emphasize the importance of a government-led approach, the equal weight of scientific research and practical application, and the necessity of cross-sector alliances and collaborations.Recommendations are made for advancing AI security strategies in China.
