Development and application of sonar equipment in U.S.Navy Unmanned Surface Vessels
Driven by a new round of naval warfare transformation and of innovation in underwater detection technology, the U.S.Navy is actively advancing the development and application of sonar equipment for Unmanned Surface Vessels(USVs)to accelerate the establishment of an intelligent underwater detection system. The development of U.S.Navy USV sonar equipment can be divided into three stages:technology verification, capability enhancement, and combat integration. The type of equipment is evolving from single to multiple, and the carrying platform is evolving from small to medium and large. The development of equipment technology shows the trend of miniaturization of load, intelligentization of signal processing, modularization of system design and low power consumption. The application is evolving in the direction of multi-platform collaborative detection, autonomous processing, and multi-task capability fusion.Based on the analysis of recent exercises,it is anticipated that the USV sonar systems will become more capable of autonomous detection and data processing while maintaining the remote control modes.Through distributed deployment, they can execute continuous monitoring tasks on the open sea, serving both as mobile and flexible detection nodes and as platforms for underwater sensors, collaborating with manned platforms to create a full-domain underwater situational awareness network.
