Synthesis of DOPO/Indole-Containing Sulfonamide Compounds and Their Flame-Retardant Epoxy Resins
An DOPO/indole-containing sulfanilamide compound(SIAD)was synthesized using indole-3-formaldehyde,sulfaguanidine and 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphophenanthrene-10-oxide(DOPO)as raw materials, and the EP/SIAD composite was prepared. After the incorporation of 6%SIAD,the EP/SIAD-6 composite passes the UL-94 V-0 testing and the LOI value is increased to 32%.Its pHRR(535 kW/m2),THR(64.2 MJ/m2)and av-EHC(18.1 MJ/kg)values are decreased by 37.3%,33.6%and 22.5%,respectively,as comparison with pure EP,it confirms that the composite has a good fire safety.SIAD acts as flame retardant in gas phase by releasing phosphate-containing free radicals and non-combustible gases, and also shows a flame retardant role in condensed phase by promoting the formation of dense continuous carbon layer.
