Preparation of High Hydrophobicity and Flame Retardancy Composite Modified Magnesium Hydroxide by Ultrasound Oscillation
Composite modified magnesium hydroxide flame(MH)retardant was successfully designed and prepared in this paper to solve the cotton fabric flammability problem. In order to improve the hydrophobicity and flame retardancy of magnesium hydroxide Mg(OH)2,silane coupling agent KH550 and sodium oleate were used as composite modifier under wet condition, and the modified effects were evaluated by water contact angle(WCA)and activation index. The modification conditions are obtained as follows:m(KH550):m(sodium oleate)=2:1,total modifier mass is 0.3 g,m(Mg(OH)2)=10.0 g,reaction temperature is 50 ℃,time is 30 min.The results show that Mg(OH)2 could be modified with silane coupling agent KH550 and sodium oleate quickly, the activation index of Mg(OH)2 reaches 98.32%,while the WCA could reach 150.5°.After modification, the surface of Mg(OH)2 changes from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, and the flame retardancy is significantly improved compared with unmodified Mg(OH)2,the limiting oxygen index(LOI)of composite modified Mg(OH)2 cotton fabric material is 27.8%,which could achieve inflaming retarding level.
