Predictive Role of MRI in Locally Advanced Esophageal Cancer for Curative Radiochemotherapy:a Review of Research Progress
Radical concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the standard treatment for locally advanced unresectable esophageal carcinoma. However, not all patients benefit from it due to tumor heterogeneity and other factors. In recent years, functional magnetic resonance imaging techniques such as diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI),dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI(DCE-MRI),and blood oxygen level dependent-functional MRI(BOLD-f MRI),as well as magnetic resonance radiomics, have made rapid progress. These techniques can predict the radiochemotherapy response of esophageal cancer patients early on.This article reviews the research progress of magnetic resonance imaging technology in predicting the effect of radical radiotherapy and chemotherapy for locally advanced esophageal cancer and looks forward to its future development direction.
