Impacts of Climate Change on Rice Growing Period and Irrigation Water Requirements
This paper investigated impacts of climate change on rice irrigation water requirements of rice with consideration to shortened growing period taking Yingkou Irrigation Area as an example. The results showed that growing period of rice was shortened by 12.7 days during last 60 years and presented a significant decreasing trend. Irrigation water requirements Due to increased temperature induced increase in reference crop evapotranspiration and decreased rainfall, there was an increasing trend in irrigation requirement not matter whether shortened growing period was considered or not. However, the trend was extremely significant if shortened growing period was not considered; while it was only significant if shortened growing period was considered, and the significance levels were different. The reduction in growing period partially counterweighed the effect of warming on the increase in irrigation water requirements, therefore the change in growing period should be considered when assessing the climate change impacts on irrigation water requirements of rice.
