This paper researches the participatory art in the community of recent years, and argues that this kind of art practice can be divided into two forms:one as"guerrilla",in which artists raise acute social questions in a relatively short period of time;the other as"position",where artists take root in the community and try to create a new type of interpersonal relationship there.Between these two models, there are also crossovers and transformations. The author argues that no matter what form of community participatory art it takes, the core issue that the artists respond to is the"loss of neighborhood"proposed by sociologist Xiang Biao as they try to re-understand the neighborhood and rebuild neighborhood relations.Based on the two theories of participatory art, deliberative participation and controversial participation, the author argues that it is necessary to fully consider the complexity of the Chinese community environment rather than blindly following the tendency of Western critics to choose one over the other,so as not only to discover the value of negotiation in the process of action, but also to pay attention to the differences and struggles between the action itself and the mainstream cultural trend.
