This paper aims to deeply analyze the technological imagery in Chinese science fiction films through the framework of affective economies and using the methodology of iconology,in order to explore the specific presentations in terms of artistic aesthetics and emotional-political expressions.By analyzing the affect studies of the technological imagery in science fiction films, this study reveals that it is evident that Western science fiction films construct a tension of affective response to future threats under the technocentrism. In contrast,Chinese films are significantly influenced the"Science vs.Metaphysics"debate initiated by the intellectuals under modem enlightenment. The core issue of these science fiction is the imagination of a new order for the future, and thus the fantasy elements are far surpassing the objective scientific and technological cognition.Within this conception, the technological imagery in Chinese science fiction films has undergone a journey from the imagination and yearning for a new order in the 20th century,to the frenzied aesthetics of technological utopianism in the early 21st century, and then to the sensorial aesthetics system constructed by technological imagery after the"Year of Chinese Science Fiction Film"in 2019.Facing the affective reality of contemporary China and the world pattern, there is still room for development in the technological imagery of Chinese science fiction films. In this sense, this paper aims to expand the space for emotional-political expression in Chinese science fiction films and explore the possibilities of future visual arts.
