A Survey on the Ecological Communities of Bryophytes in the Kanas National Nature Reserve, Xinjiang, China
During the period from 1989 to 2007, a survey on the ecological communities of bryophytes in the Kanas National Nature Reserve, Xinjiang, China was carried out. The results show that there are 242 species (including varieties) in the ecological communities of bryophytes in 105 genera and 50 families in the nature reserve. Based on Professor Chen Bangjie's points of view (1958 and 1963) about the divisions of ecological communities of bryophytes in China and the field observation records of the author, the ecological communities of bryophytes in the Kanas National Nature Reserve can be preliminarily divided into four types: Bryo-Hydrophytia Type, Bryo-Geophy-tia Type, Bryo-Petrophytia Type and Bryo-Epixylophytia Type. The study results reveal that the Kanas National Nature Reserve is rich in bryophytes because of the favorable physical geographical conditions; on the one hand, the annual air temperature is low, and the temperature in the morning and evening is mostly about 10℃ and about 20 ℃ at noon and afternoon in hottest July; on the other hand, precipitation and diurnal-nocturnal temperature difference are high. Moreover, there are many alpine glaciers, snow-covered peaks, swamps, streams and springs. All these provide the favorable conditions for the growth of bryophytes.
