Density, Liquid Water Content and Temperature of Snow Cover in Northern Slope of the Tianshan Mountains in Snowmelt Season
The values of density of snow cover and liquid water content and temperature in it on sunny and shady slopes in the Tianshan Mounntains were measured with an automatic meteorological instrument DELTA-T and a portable instrument (snow folk) in snowmelt season. The temporal and vertical variations of density of snow cover and liquid water content and temperature in it as well as their relationships with deep layer of snow cover, wind speed, air pressure, air temperature, air humidity, dew temperature (DP) and wet-bulb temperature (WB) were analyzed. The results are as follows:① Holistically, the snow cover temperature on sunny slope was higher than that on shady slope in snowmelt season. The average temperature of snow cover on sunny slope was higher at the early stage of snowmelt season, but it was contrary at the late stage.Average snow cover temperature was the highest in upper layer but the lowest in middle later on both the sunny and shady slopes. The temperature gradient of snow cover was negative on shady slope but positive on sunny slope in snowmelt season ; ② The average liquid water content in snow cover on sunny slope was higher than that on shady slope,it was the highest in lower layer of snow cover, and then in upper layer. The gradient of liquid water content in snow cover in snowmelt season was positive on shady slope but negative on sunny slope;③ Density gradient of snow cover was high at the early stage of snowmelt season, but it was decreased at the late stage.Average density of snow cover on sunny slope was higher than that on shady slope. The inflection point of snow cover density on shady slope was 2 hours earlier than that on sunny slope.
